Using Essential Oils for Foot Pain
Foot pain is a condition that many people face on a daily basis, it is said to be sharp, throbbing or aching pains in one or both feet. Although there can be many reasons for the pain here are just some of the causes that can affect foot pain include wearing high heels too long and shoes that do not fit correctly, having fallen arches, running long distances, lifting heavy weights, and not to mention being pregnant to name just a few.
Painful and aching feet can also be due to health conditions particularly those that affect the feet, such as plantar fasciitis, heel spur, foot drop, Achilles tendonitis, and arthritis, just to name a few.
How do Essential Oils Help Relieve Foot Pain?
Essential oils are obtained through steam distillation and cold pressing of aromatic plant material such as leaves, stems, petals of flowers and bark of trees, essential oils are highly concentrated and potent liquid substances that have tremendous healing properties.
Essential oils help relieve foot pain because of their chemical properties such as analgesic, stimulant, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic. All these properties assist in reducing inflammation, which may be your root cause of the pain, some of them will numb down pain due to their high menthol content, like peppermint and also helps promote the flow of more oxygen and nutrients to the painful site, which then will promote speedy healing. In the case of plantar fasciitis, essential oils also may also help by boosting collagen production which could be the cause of the issue.
5 Essential Oils for Foot Pain
Before using essential oils, please ensure that you have talked to a certified aromatherapist on usage and only purchase only 100% pure essential oils from a quality reputed seller.
- Black pepper
- A ¼ cup of Epsom salts
- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 10 drops birch
- 10 drops peppermint
- 5 drops black pepper
- Large pan or basin that your feet can fit in
- Hot water
Fill the pot or basin half full of hot water.
Then add the Epsom salts, baking soda and essential oils to the water.
Place your feet inside and stir the ingredients together using your feet.
Soak them for at least 15 minutes for relief.
Massage Oil Blend
- 20 drops lemongrass
- 20 drops black pepper
- 10 drops frankincense
- Any carrier oil such as almond, olive or coconut
- 2 oz glass bottle
In an empty bottle, add all the oils then top with a carrier oil of choice.
Massage the affected area or whole foot as needed on feet. ( at night before crawling into bed and in am when putting on your socks and shoes for the day)
